CINDY LAUPER AND LADY GAGA GLOSS IT UP
If you thought you were psyched about Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper’s Viva Glam Lipsticks for MAC Cosmetics, get a load of their new Lipglass offerings! Like their bullet-encased predecessors, the shine enhancers come in opaque pink (Gaga) and opaque coral (Cyndi), and a portion of proceeds from their sale benefits the MAC AIDS fund. Also available for your credit card-swiping pleasure are some adorable lip-shaped wristlets with enough space for both a gloss and a lipstick should you want to double up your coverage—or combine the colors; a Cyndi-Gaga music mash-up still eludes pop radio, but the makeup version is a layered application away.

The history of haute couture is studded with magnificent obsessives like Cristobal Balenciaga and Charles James. Even if Riccardo Tisci's name never makes it onto that list, his latest Couture collection for Givenchy proved that he shares the grandmasters' fanatical devotion to realizing an intensely personal vision through cut, cloth, and, in Tisci's case, extraordinarily elaborate ornamentation. This season, he opted out of a proper show in favor of intimate presentations, where he could better highlight detailed pieces like the painstakingly patchworked leather coat or the dress in Chantilly lace where the pattern of the lace had been duplicated in appliquéd leather (the dress ended in a cascade of dégradé ostrich feathers—Tisci considers dégradé, lace, and fringe-work his signatures).
The darkest color in the collection was the chocolate brown on those feathers. Otherwise, everything was white, flesh-colored, or gold, with a salon dedicated to each shade. Even the baboon fur that was attached to a swallowtailed knit jacket was spookily bleached. Fact is, Tisci didn't need black to exercise his gothic inclinations. He claimed his inspiration was Frida Kahlo and her three obsessions: religion, sensuality, and, given the painter's lifelong battle with spinal pain, the human anatomy. The zipper pulls were little bones, a belt was a spinal column re-created in porcelain. The dominant motif of the collection was the skeleton, laid out flat in the lace appliquéd on a long tulle column, or rendered in three dimensions in obsessively dense clusters of crystals, pearls, and lace on the back of a jacket in double silk duchesse satin. Nestled in the middle? A tiny ceramic skull sprouting angel wings. At one point during his presentation, Tisci rather tellingly muttered, "A romantic way to see death."
That jacket was suspended in the all-white "ceramic" room. In the "skin" room, Tisci showcased lace catsuits, one decorated with a Swarovski crystal skeleton that took 1,600 hours to create. In the third, "gold" room was a lace dress that demanded six months of work. Dresses encrusted with gold paillettes, stones, and beads were almost too heavy to lift, despite being revealingly scissored away at the waist. If the detail was breathtaking, it was also quite numbing in its intensity. The last room featured a giant portrait by Willy Vanderperre of Tisci's muses wearing the dresses, seen from the back. "I love that view," Tisci explained, "the spine of people." Walk round the photo and there was the same view from the front, the women all posed reverentially like hand maidens. In obsession is born the cult of couture.
Miss World 2010 returns to Sanya, China
This year’s Miss World event returns to China, with the Final set to take place on Saturday 30th October in the city of Sanya, located in China’s Hainan province.
Contestants from over 120 countries will be competing in Miss World’s 60th Final which will begin Miss World’s diamond anniversary year. A busy, four week itinerary is being planned for the contestants across the whole of China, culminating in the live, televised Final in the forever tropical paradise, Sanya.
Miss World is the longest running event of its kind. Launched in 1951, it has become the world’s most watched annual event, with a worldwide viewing audience of over 1 billion. Miss World is a celebration of beauty, fashion, talent and culture as contestants tour the host country supporting charitable causes, participating in spectacular events and visiting the local attractions.
2010 will be the fifth time that China has held the Final, after successfully hosting the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007 events. Miss World has been credited for producing a rapid surge in Sanya’s tourism. The unprecedented rise in tourism has been described by former Mayor Lu as the “Miss World effect” .
Chairman of Miss World, Julia Morley commented “We are delighted to be returning to China for Miss World 2010. Miss World has a special relationship with Sanya and there is no better place to begin our 60th year celebrations”.
Reigning Miss World - Kaiane Aldorino will crown her successor on Saturday 30th October at the beauty Crown Theatre. She said “China is a magnificent experience and I look forward to welcoming all the contestants to this tropical paradise”.
For the first time, the Miss World contestants will be visiting Inner Mongolia as part of their tour of China. Further announcements to be made shortly.

With the phone ringing off the hook with requests for his sexy little party dresses, Peter Dundas made sure to include plenty of them in his latest collection for Pucci. His celeb fans will be able to choose from ruched animal prints, second-skin black jersey with zip details, or asymmetrical hot pink numbers. He's put his experience at fur specialist Revillon to work here, too, turning out belted cashmere jackets with fox sleeves and a shaggy black coat that would have appealed to Janis Joplin, a pre-fall muse.
